Service

Lived-in color

Soft brightness for brown and dark blonde hair, placed so it grows out without a line.

Balayage, babylights and a root smudge all start with the same idea: leave a little of you at the root and put the light where it will look natural as it moves down. Results vary with your starting color and your hair's history, and your stylist tells you at the consultation what is possible in one visit and what takes two.

Bring or tell us

  • Photos of color you like, and color you don't

  • What has been on your hair: box color, henna, a past gloss

  • Any past reaction to hair color, so we can plan a patch test

Step by step

What happens

Timings vary with your hair and your plan.

  1. 01
    30–45 min

    Step 1: Consultation

Your stylist looks at your hair in daylight, goes through your color history and agrees on a shade and a plan.

  2. 02
    15 min

    Step 2: Sectioning and prep

Your hair is sectioned along your part and natural movement so the color follows how it falls.

  3. 03
    90–120 min

    Step 3: Placing the color

Lightener or color is painted by hand, or woven fine for babylights, from the lengths toward the root.

  4. 04
    30–45 min

    Step 4: Processing and checking

We check it at intervals rather than by the clock, and rinse when the lift is where the plan says.

  5. 05
    45–60 min

Step 5: Tone, finish and a plan

A gloss sets the shade, a blowout shows how it wears, and we plan the next visit before you go.

What sets the price

How this service is priced

Your price follows the length and density of your hair, how much lightening the plan needs, the time it takes and your stylist's level. Your stylist agrees the price with you at the consultation, before anything is mixed.

Questions

Questions about this service

How long until I need a touch-up?

Soft balayage is often a few months between visits. A root smudge or gloss comes sooner. Your stylist gives you a schedule.

Can I go lighter in one visit?

Sometimes. Going much lighter from dark brown usually takes more than one visit, and we will say so at the consultation.

Do I need a patch test?

If you have reacted to hair color before, or have never colored your hair, we may ask for one at least two days ahead. Tell us when you book.

Start with a consultation

Thirty to forty-five minutes on your hair, your color history and a plan, with the stylist who will do the work.
